Dash Camera Wire Harness

Product Overview

This dash camera wire harness is a custom cable assembly that powers an AI or traditional dash cam from the vehicle OBD2 port, fuse box or heavy-truck diagnostic connector and steps 12-24 V down to the 5 V the camera needs.

Builds in the range include the OBD2 16-pin lead (DC-OBD2), J1939 9-pin Type I and Type II (DC-J1939-T1, DC-J1939-T2), RP1226 14-pin (DC-RP1226), fuse-box tap with USB Mini A (DC-FUSE-USB-MINI-10FT-M), 4.2 mm 6-pin housing with inline fuse (DC-6P-Fuse), DT06-2S to DT04-2P (DC-DT2P) and the 4-pin high-definition camera lead (DC-HD-4P-10FT-M).

Cactus Electronics has built dash camera power leads since 2009. Input connector, output plug, cable length, fuse rating and output voltage are fixed on the drawing before production, and every lead is made to IPC/WHMA-A-620 and 100 % electrically tested before shipment.

In the field of automotive intelligence and safety assurance, dash cams serve as critical devices, and their stable operation relies on efficient and reliable connection support. Leveraging its profound expertise in automotive electronic connection technology, Cactus Electronics specializes in the design, R&D, production, and customization of harnesses for automotive AI Dash Cams and Traditional Dash Cams. We build stable “connection bridges” for various dash cam devices, ensuring the efficient fulfillment of data transmission and power supply needs between devices and vehicles, as well as between devices themselves.
Whether it is an AI Dash Cam with intelligent analysis functions or a Traditional Dash Cam focused on basic recording capabilities, Cactus Electronics’ harnesses can accurately match their connection requirements. For AI Dash Cams, the harnesses efficiently support the connection between the device and the vehicle’s CAN bus or OBD interface, enabling real-time synchronous transmission of vehicle driving data (such as speed, steering, and braking status) and AI analysis data (such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and driver status monitoring information), thus ensuring the accurate performance of AI functions. For Traditional Dash Cams, the harnesses stably complete the connection for device power supply and video data storage devices (such as SD card modules and cloud transmission modules), guaranteeing clear recorded images and uninterrupted storage and transmission.

This dash camera wire harness is a custom cable assembly that powers an AI or traditional dash cam from the vehicle OBD2 port, fuse box or heavy-truck diagnostic connector and steps 12-24 V down to the 5 V the camera needs.

We fully understand that dash cams of different brands and models vary in interface specifications, installation positions, and functional requirements. Therefore, we offer highly flexible customization services. From the selection of harness core materials (high-conductivity, anti-aging copper wires) and insulating protective layers (suitable for complex in-vehicle environments such as high/low temperatures and vibrations), to interface types (USB, Type-C, custom-specific interfaces, etc.) and harness length and routing design—all can be tailor-made according to customers’ device parameters and installation scenarios. This completely solves the problems of poor adaptability and unstable connection of universal harnesses, ensuring that each set of harnesses is perfectly compatible with dash cam devices and automotive systems.
Cactus Electronics always regards product quality as its core competitiveness. Our harnesses for automotive AI and Traditional Dash Cams have obtained multiple global authoritative certifications to ensure product reliability:

  • ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certification: Covers the entire process from raw material procurement and production processing to finished product inspection, ensuring that every link meets strict quality standards;
  • IATF 16949 Automotive Industry Special Certification: Developed and produced in accordance with the special requirements for automotive components. The harnesses feature excellent resistance to high/low temperatures, vibrations, and electromagnetic interference, fully adapting to the complex operating environment of vehicles;
  • UL Safety Certification: The electrical performance, flame retardancy, and other indicators of the harnesses have passed rigorous tests, eliminating equipment damage or safety hazards caused by harness failures.

Furthermore, we adhere to a 100% post-production inspection process. Before leaving the factory, each set of harnesses undergoes continuity testing (to ensure no wire breaks), insulation resistance testing (to prevent leakage risks), high/low temperature resistance testing (to simulate extreme in-vehicle temperature environments), vibration testing (to adapt to vehicle driving vibration scenarios), and full appearance inspection. This ensures that the products delivered to customers are defect-free and fault-free, fundamentally avoiding dash cam malfunctions, data loss, and functional failures caused by harness issues, and helping customers save post-maintenance costs and time costs.
Whether you are a dash cam manufacturer in need of bulk matching harnesses or an automotive modification company with personalized customization requirements, Cactus Electronics can provide you with professional and efficient solutions. If you wish to learn about product parameters, obtain quotations, or coordinate customization plans, please feel free to contact us at any time—we promise to respond to customer needs within 24 hours, quickly answer questions, and advance the cooperation process to ensure the smooth progress of your projects without worries.

FAQ

What is the operating temperature rating of this harness?

Standard PVC-insulated assemblies are rated to 80 °C; XLPE or TPE insulation raises the rating to 105 °C. For a windscreen-mounted camera the standard PVC build is normally sufficient; cameras routed near the headliner or an engine-bay feed are quoted with XLPE or TPE insulation. The exact operating range for a part number is stated on its drawing and confirmed in the sample test report.

Is this overmolded harness waterproof?

Overmolded versions seal the connector-to-cable junction with a molded body, so a mated pair is protected against water and dust. Cameras mounted inside the cabin are normally supplied with the non-sealed PVC build, which keeps the lead slimmer behind the trim. The ingress protection level (typically IP67 for a mated pair) is specified on the drawing and verified during sample validation. Non-overmolded assemblies can be supplied with heat-shrink or grommet sealing instead.

Can I customize the pinout and connector type?

Yes. Pinout, connector series and gender, cable length, wire gauge, jacket colour and overmold shape are all customer-defined. Power polarity, fuse rating and output plug are all customer-defined, so the same lead can be built for a 5 V camera, a 12 V monitor or a USB-C device. Send a drawing, a sample, or a pinout table and we return a 2D/3D drawing prepared to IPC/WHMA-A-620 for approval before tooling.

What is your MOQ for custom cable?

MOQ is confirmed per project and depends on harness complexity, connector cost and tooling. Prototype and pilot batches are accepted before mass production, so a new programme can start with sample quantities. Samples are produced in 3–7 working days and mass production runs 20–30 days after approval.

What testing standards do you apply for harness?

Production follows IPC/WHMA-A-620. Every assembly is 100 % electrically tested for continuity, insulation resistance and withstand voltage; the in-house lab adds temperature and humidity cycling, salt spray, connector insertion and withdrawal force, and cable bending tests. Inspection records are kept in the ERP system.
