FAKRA Cable

Product Overview

This FAKRA cable is a custom coaxial assembly with colour-coded FAKRA connectors that carries camera, antenna, GPS and 360-degree surround-view signals between the head unit and the devices around the vehicle.

Existing builds cover the FAKRA Z female to male antenna extension (FAKRAZ-FM-6FT), the FAKRA Z 4-in-1 harness for a 360-degree camera system (FAKRAZ-1F4F-10FT) and the FAKRA Z splitter (FAKRAZ-M2F-1FT).

Cable type, connector code, gender and length are fixed on the drawing before production. Cactus Electronics has produced coaxial harnesses since 2009, to IPC/WHMA-A-620, with 100 % electrical testing before shipment.

Material & Rating

  • Connector — FAKRA Z code plug and jack, straight or right-angle, with coding key per ISO 20860-1
  • Contacts — brass, gold-plated, crimped to the coax braid and centre conductor
  • Cable — RG174, RG58 or RTK031 coaxial cable selected by length and frequency range
  • Shielding — coaxial braid, coverage and attenuation class stated per cable type on the drawing
  • Jacket — PVC or PE outer jacket, black, with moulded strain relief
  • Temperature — 80 °C with PVC jacket; higher-temperature cable types quoted on request
  • Ingress protection — sealed mated pairs and grommet versions specified per drawing

Certification

Cactus Electronics is certified to ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and UL and manufactures to the IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standard. Raw materials comply with RoHS. Every assembly passes 100 % electrical testing - continuity, insulation resistance and withstand voltage - before packing, and the QC-to-production personnel ratio is 1:3.

Application

FAKRA assemblies carry the RF signals inside a vehicle where a coaxial connection is needed between a module and an antenna or camera.

  • 360-degree surround view and reversing camera systems
  • AM/FM, DAB and GPS antenna extension leads
  • Head unit to telematics box and TCU links
  • ADAS camera and radar module cabling
  • Rear seat entertainment and Wi-Fi antenna runs
  • Test bench and production line RF jumpers

FAQ

What is the operating temperature rating of this harness?

Standard PVC-insulated assemblies are rated to 80 °C; XLPE or TPE insulation raises the rating to 105 °C. Camera leads routed through the headliner use the standard PVC jacket; runs near the engine bay or roof-mounted antennas are quoted with a higher-temperature cable type. The exact operating range for a part number is stated on its drawing and confirmed in the sample test report.

Is this overmolded harness waterproof?

FAKRA connectors used outside the cabin are supplied with a sealed housing and grommet, and the mated pair is rated per the drawing; interior leads use the standard unsealed housing. The ingress protection level (typically IP67 for a mated pair) is specified on the drawing and verified during sample validation. Non-overmolded assemblies can be supplied with heat-shrink or grommet sealing instead.

Can I customize the pinout and connector type?

Yes. Pinout, connector series and gender, cable length, wire gauge, jacket colour and overmold shape are all customer-defined. Cable type, connector code, gender, length and splitter configuration are all customer-defined. Send a drawing, a sample, or a pinout table and we return a 2D/3D drawing prepared to IPC/WHMA-A-620 for approval before tooling.

What is your MOQ for custom cable?

MOQ is confirmed per project and depends on harness complexity, connector cost and tooling. Prototype and pilot batches are accepted before mass production, so a new programme can start with sample quantities. Samples are produced in 3–7 working days and mass production runs 20–30 days after approval.

What testing standards do you apply for harness?

Production follows IPC/WHMA-A-620. Every assembly is 100 % electrically tested for continuity, insulation resistance and withstand voltage; the in-house lab adds temperature and humidity cycling, salt spray, connector insertion and withdrawal force, and cable bending tests. Inspection records are kept in the ERP system.
