Custom Plastic Enclosure

Product Overview

This custom plastic enclosure is an injection-moulded housing produced to the customer drawing for wire harness overmolds, connector bodies and compact electronic modules.

The range covers custom enclosures (CUSTOM-01) and custom connector bodies (CUSTOM-02), moulded in the material and colour specified on the drawing, with or without the mating hardware and gasket.

Tooling is built after drawing approval. Cactus Electronics has produced overmolded harnesses and enclosures since 2009, and moulded parts are assembled into harnesses made to IPC/WHMA-A-620 with 100 % electrical testing before shipment.

Specifications

Material & Rating

  • Housing material — ABS, PC, PA66 or PVC, selected by impact strength and temperature requirement
  • Overmold material — PVC or TPU, black or custom colour, bonded to the cable jacket
  • Sealing — gasket, O-ring or overmolded cable entry to the rating on the drawing
  • Colour and finish — black, grey or custom RAL colour; textured, matte or gloss finish
  • Marking — laser marking, pad printing or moulded-in part number and logo
  • Temperature — rated to the resin specification; stated on the drawing
  • Ingress protection — IP65 to IP68 versions with gasket or overmolded cable entry, verified on the sample

Certification

Cactus Electronics is certified to ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and UL and manufactures to the IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standard. Raw materials comply with RoHS. Every assembly passes 100 % electrical testing - continuity, insulation resistance and withstand voltage - before packing, and the QC-to-production personnel ratio is 1:3.

Application

Custom enclosures are used when a standard box does not fit the harness, the mounting or the sealing requirement of the product.

  • Overmolded connector bodies and strain reliefs
  • Sealed housings for telematics and IoT devices
  • Control module and junction boxes
  • Sensor and interface module enclosures
  • Handheld and portable device housings
  • Replacement housings for existing product lines

FAQ

What is the operating temperature rating of this harness?

Standard PVC-insulated assemblies are rated to 80 °C; XLPE or TPE insulation raises the rating to 105 °C. The enclosure material is selected for the application - ABS or PC for indoor devices, PA66 or UV-stabilised resin for outdoor and under-hood use - and the rating is stated on the drawing. The exact operating range for a part number is stated on its drawing and confirmed in the sample test report.

Is this overmolded harness waterproof?

Enclosures with a gasket or an overmolded cable entry are sealed to the rating on the drawing (IP65 to IP68); the level is verified on the sample before tooling is released for production. The ingress protection level (typically IP67 for a mated pair) is specified on the drawing and verified during sample validation. Non-overmolded assemblies can be supplied with heat-shrink or grommet sealing instead.

Can I customize the pinout and connector type?

Yes. Pinout, connector series and gender, cable length, wire gauge, jacket colour and overmold shape are all customer-defined. Every dimension, cable entry position and connector cut-out is defined by your drawing, and the enclosure can be supplied moulded only or assembled with the harness. Send a drawing, a sample, or a pinout table and we return a 2D/3D drawing prepared to IPC/WHMA-A-620 for approval before tooling.

What is your MOQ for custom cable?

MOQ is confirmed per project and depends on harness complexity, connector cost and tooling. Prototype and pilot batches are accepted before mass production, so a new programme can start with sample quantities. Samples are produced in 3–7 working days and mass production runs 20–30 days after approval.

What testing standards do you apply for harness?

Production follows IPC/WHMA-A-620. Every assembly is 100 % electrically tested for continuity, insulation resistance and withstand voltage; the in-house lab adds temperature and humidity cycling, salt spray, connector insertion and withdrawal force, and cable bending tests. Inspection records are kept in the ERP system.
