Fleet Telematics and ELD Harness (J1939 / RP1226 / OBD2)
Product Overview
This fleet telematics harness is a custom overmolded cable assembly that connects a telematics or ELD unit to the vehicle data bus through the J1939 9-pin, J1708 6-pin, RP1226 14-pin or OBD2 16-pin diagnostic port.
Cactus Electronics supplies these harnesses to ELD hardware manufacturers in the United States, where they are fitted to heavy and light trucks of several brands. The model list below covers J1939 Type I and Type II splitters and Y-cables, RP1226-to-J1939 adapters, FMS cables and device-specific harnesses for CalAmp and Geotab units. Each harness is built to the customer drawing, overmolded, and 100 % electrically tested before packing.
Specifications
The part numbers below are existing builds and can be re-configured. Full drawings, tolerances and the current specification for each item are issued with the quotation.

Certification
Cactus Electronics is certified to ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and UL and manufactures to the IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standard. Raw materials comply with RoHS. Every assembly passes 100 % electrical testing - continuity, insulation resistance and withstand voltage - before packing, and the QC-to-production personnel ratio is 1:3.
Application
These harnesses are fitted where a telematics unit has to read the vehicle bus and, in some builds, switch a circuit such as starter disable.
- ELD compliance devices on heavy trucks and light commercial vehicles
- Fleet management and GPS tracking installations, including plug-and-play OBD2 T-harnesses
- RP1226 to J1939 adapters for newer truck models with a 14-pin telematics port
- FMS interface cables for the European fleet management standard
- Device-specific harnesses for CalAmp LMU3640, jPOD 5C992-2 and Geotab GO units
- Starter-disable and power kits for anti-theft and immobiliser functions

FAQ
What is the operating temperature rating of this harness?
Standard PVC-insulated assemblies are rated to 80 °C; XLPE or TPE insulation raises the rating to 105 °C. For engine-bay or near-exhaust routing we quote higher-temperature insulation and sleeving. The exact operating range for a part number is stated on its drawing and confirmed in the sample test report.
Is this overmolded harness waterproof?
Overmolded versions seal the connector-to-cable junction with a molded body, so a mated pair is protected against water and dust; the ingress protection level (typically IP67 for a mated pair) is specified on the drawing and verified during sample validation. Non-overmolded assemblies can be supplied with heat-shrink or grommet sealing instead.
Can I customize the pinout and connector type?
Yes. Pinout, connector series and gender, cable length, wire gauge, jacket colour and overmold shape are all customer-defined. Send a drawing, a sample, or a pinout table and we return a 2D/3D drawing prepared to IPC/WHMA-A-620 for approval before tooling.
What is your MOQ for custom ELD telematics cable?
MOQ is confirmed per project and depends on harness complexity, connector cost and tooling. Prototype and pilot batches are accepted before mass production, so a new ELD programme can start with sample quantities.
What testing standards do you apply for truck harness?
Production follows IPC/WHMA-A-620. Every assembly is 100 % electrically tested for continuity, insulation resistance and withstand voltage; the in-house lab adds temperature and humidity cycling, salt spray, connector insertion and withdrawal force, and cable bending tests. Inspection records are kept in the ERP system.
Is this cable compatible with ELD trackers for heavy trucks?
Yes. The range covers the interfaces used by ELD and fleet-tracking units on heavy trucks: J1939 9-pin Type I and Type II, J1708 6-pin, RP1226 14-pin and OBD2 16-pin. Existing builds for CalAmp (LMU3640, jPOD 5C992-2) and Geotab GO devices are listed under Specifications. Tell us the tracker model and we confirm the mating connector.
